Canon Printer Tips – Canon or HP Printer / scanner combo?

February 7th, 2010 No comments

Which printer and scanner is best? I have always found HP colour pictures look a lot better than Canon. I need a scanner but the cost of a printer / scanner combo is much cheaper than just buying a scanner. I also need it to scan slides. There is an HP c8180 combo – very expensive, and Cannon MP970 combo much cheaper. All the reviews I read recommend the Cannon and yet I am very keen on the way HP prints. Of course I also need it to be a reliable scanner.
Can anyone comment on these?

Best Answer: I’ve always liked HP for quality & reliability.

Online, HP has the c8180 on sale:

In fact, all of their stuff is on sale online now.

Whichever you pick, look at ink cost first.

  • i find them both to be disappointing these days.

used to be a big HP fan… not as good as they used to be, hp laptop + MFC both have small glitches. printer can’t print to the edge.

Canon… prints to the edge, but not as sharp… also printer software isn’t as comprehensive as HP ( cant print multiple screen pages on 1 page, etc)

nothing really better though, without spending mega $

Canon Printer Tips – My printer will not print until i have restarted my computer???

February 1st, 2010 No comments

Hi i have a cannon pixma MP110 and sometimes it just wont print. Sometimes it comes up with a dialogue box saying colecting printer status. It then will not allow the job to be canceled. Then once i restart or turn off and on my PC it prints off all the documents ect that i wanted to print before. How can i fix this??

Best Answer: If updated drivers don’t help I’ve had good luck in the past fixing this exact problem by turning off bidirectional support. If you go to the Printer Properties, Ports tab, uncheck Enable Bidirectional Support.

  • That is a driver issue. Go to the website and see if there isn’t a newer driver than the one you are using.
  • 1)) Start – -> Run — type services.msc…press ok
look 4 Print Spooler …..Restart the service

2))Restart the computer while the cable is unplugged….
Replug when the computer comes back

    try It It Works…

Canon Printer Tips – My Canon-MP600 All-in-One printer only uses the PGI-5BK Ink and not the cli-8bk Ink?

January 3rd, 2010 No comments

Title has to basically do with the same thing….I have a cannon all in one printer (MP600) and it has 2 black ink tanks..

Problem I have is that it only uses ONE of those ink tanks the PGI-5BK and not the other cli-8bk ink

Anybody know how to fix this? Because my cli-8bk ink is full and my PGI-5Bk keeps continously running out..and its making me mad!

Best Answer: First person is correct. I have the MP610 so have the two black inks and my 5 goes while the 8 is full. The reason the printer has two black inks is because one is dye based (the 8) and the other pigment based (5) these have different functions. One is better for text and the other is better for graphics. That is why you use more of one more as you are probably printing out more of one sort of printout and so the other black is not needed for the job.

  • PGI-5BK is for photo printing, CLI-8BK is for regular printing(black and white), so you can let the printer only print black and white papers, then it might work.
  • I believe I have seen a way to trick the printer
to use both cartridges by using different settings.

I would ask this question at

(they have free printer support by pros)

Canon Printer Tips – My printer won’t print after I changed the ink?

December 27th, 2009 No comments

My printer is a Cannon S750.
It wouldn’t print do to lack of ink, so I put more ink cartridges in, and now it won’t print at all.

Help?

Best Answer: If you put the ink as you have done in the past then it should work. Did you check if the cartridge is fixed well?

Try this: Unplug printer. Unplug USB connection. Turn of computer.

Then restart and try to print. If you still got problem do this if possible. When you are on printing mode, click Advance Tab(mine is in Japanese so can not tell you exact words) of your printer then check if you can find Utility
Click, Nozzle Check or Head Cleaning then print the page.

One point advise* did you remove thin plastic on the ribbon cartridge before you replace? check please.

Hope this could help you.

  • A good, thorough cleaning of the print carriage would be a good place to start. If that doesn’t work, ditch the printer and get a HP.

Canon Printer Tips – How do I go about developing my photos for sale?

November 20th, 2009 No comments

I began taking photos of my nephews in youth baseball and football a couple of years ago. Soon after I was taking photos of their teammates and handing them out to their parents. I seemed to be doing a pretty good job because they became quite popular. I was approached by a parent that mentioned to me that I could make a little extra money form this hobby. I have no proffesional training and I never took a course. I have an old cannon eos and a EF 80-200mm lens. I have always paid retail for my film developing. I’ve done some research as to how to solicit my work and gaining access to high school sporting events, also establishing a DBA. I would also look into upgarding my equipment. I just haven’t figured out how to go about developing my proofs and developing photos that are ordered in various sizes. Do I need to buy the printer or is it possible to pay someone wholesale for developing? This can make or break my plan.

Best Answer: a local photograper made an agreement with k-mart for a reduced price

that is all I know about it

  • Hmmm we have a Creve Couer Cmaera here that does it. Its no too bad. Good Quality photos. But if you go digital (which is a great upgrade) send em to Adorama.com they have amazing prices, all size printing and you can do it from just a click of the mouse. Adorama also has amazing quility. They looked professional when I recieved my 8 x 10’s and my wallets from a wedding I did for a friend. Any camera shop should develope them. Its probably not worth trying to learn how to do darkroom tho.
